About me

Started at UNSW: October 2018

Main responsibilities with UNSW Sport:

- News coverage of UNSW sport which ranges from participation programs on campus, through to clubs competing in local, state and national competitions, as well as university nationals and our elite athletes.

- Raising the profile of UNSW as a top sporting institution as well as an academic one. My role also covers website management, social media coordination and strategy writing.

Skills: News and feature writing, copywriting, video editing, social media management, media relations, sports marketing and strategy.

Professional background:

I am a qualified sports journalist who has written for a number of publications, most regularly The Guardian Australia.

In 2016, I co-wrote Shine: the Making of the Australian Netball Diamonds, published by Finch Publishing. Most recently, in 2021, with former Australian women's cricket captain Alex Blackwell, I co-authored her memoir, Fair Game, published by Hachette Australia.

I have more than 15 years experience working in sports media and marketing in Australia and the UK, with a strong network of professional contacts throughout the sports industry.

Most enjoyable part of working for UNSW Sport:

Being able to tell the stories of our incredible student athletes and club members. We have such an inspiring and diverse community and it is a privilege to be able to share what they do with the wider public. The UNSW Active Women Strategy is also something I am very proud of, as I am incredibly passionate about women's sport.

Hobbies outside of sport: Reading, drinking tea, watching Netflix and hanging out with my daughter.

Favourite athletes:

  • Nat Medhurst
  • Alex Blackwell
  • Hannah Darlington
  • Ash Brazill
  • Simone Biles
  • Serena Williams

Favourite teams: Collingwood Magpies Netball, St George Illawarra Dragons and Sydney Thunder.

Sporting predictions for 2022:

Australian Women's Cricket Team to take a clean sweep of the ODI World Cup in New Zealand and Birmingham Commonwealth Games, in England.

Something you wouldn't know about me: I once ran a full marathon and it was the second hardest thing I've ever done. Childbirth being the hardest!
